Be Your Best

Whatever mission Saul sent him on, David was so successful that Saul gave him a high rank in the army. This pleased all the troops, and Saul’s officers as well. When the men were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with timbrels and lyres. As they danced, they sang: “Saul has slain his thousands,     and David his tens of thousands.” Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?” And from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David. My brothers and sisters in Christ please do not compare what God is doing in others to what He is doing in you. Saul felt David as a threat because the people praised David's accomplishments in war which outweighed Saul's victories. Sometimes others may be better at things than we are but, God does not require us to be the best, all He wants is for us to do our best. Who will Be Jonathan?

18 After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return home to his family. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt. 1Samuel 18:1-4 In the bible robes were symbolic of a mantle and were not worn by ordinary people. In this story of David and Jonathan, the robe Jonathan wore represents the position of an heir, royalty, and nobility. Jonathan was sealing his covenant with David by giving him his robe - an amazing gesture of sacrifice. Such a gesture assured David that no matter what, his covenant relationship with Jonathan would remain and that he could count on Jonathan just as he could depend on himself.  I question if as Christians we have been as sacrificial to our brothers and sisters  as Jonathan was to David? Have we taken off our robes and placed them on our friends and family? Have we communicated to them that we agree to treat them as we treat ourselves? My honest reply is that I have not been as sacrificial as I could be. I allow the small annoyances or hiccups in others' personalities to keep me from placing my robe on someone else. See, when Jonathan gave David his robe, he did not give his title away.  Jonathan was still the son of the King and still the Prince. David having the robe simply presented David as royalty and gave David the confidence in knowing he was royalty.  As children of King Jesus we are royalty and heirs of the Kingdom. We know who we are and we know our positions.  But what about those who have no knowledge of their spiritual inheritance? What if for a second we take off our crowns, our robes, and our titles and put them on the 'ordinary people'? What if we sit with them, listen to them, and sup with them just as if we were in the presence of royalty? What if we showed them the same type of love the Father shows us? God is calling us higher and expanding us further than the "me, my four, and no more" mentality. If we really call ourselves brothers and sisters, then we should assure others that the same way we pray ourselves through is the same way we will pray them through . The same way you call on the name of Jesus to meet your needs, is the same way you should call on Jesus on their behalf.  The same umbrella of grace that I am walking under is the same grace available to you, and it is by this very grace that I am where I am. The same Jesus that calls me daughter is the same Jesus that calls you daughter. I am no better, no holier, no more blessed than you because we have the same Daddy, Jesus Christ. Since we have the same Father you are royalty just as I am. I usually ask "Where's David?", but the question today is "Who will be Jonathan?" My Weapon

David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran. Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout and pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath and to the gates of Ekron. Their dead were strewn along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron. When the Israelites returned from chasing the Philistines, they plundered their camp. David took the Philistine’s head and brought it to Jerusalem; he put the Philistine’s weapons in his own tent. As Saul watched David going out to meet the Philistine, he said to Abner, commander of the army, “Abner, whose son is that young man?” Abner replied, “As surely as you live, Your Majesty, I don’t know.” The king said, “Find out whose son this young man is.” As soon as David returned from killing the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul, with David still holding the Philistine’s head. “Whose son are you, young man?” Saul asked him. David said, “I am the son of your servant Jesse of Bethlehem.” 1 Samuel 17:48-50 The weapons your enemies pursue you with will be the very weapons that bear the evidence of God's hand on your life. In verse 46 David tells Goliath how he will  defeat him. In doing so, he deems himself victorious even before the battle began. David declares that he will strike the giant down and cut off his head.  Yet, David does not reveal his strategy, nor does he tell what weapon he will use. As people of the Lord Jesus, it is necessary to learn from David and follow suit  in deeming ourselves victorious  before the  battle even before we know which weapons we will use. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 tells us For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; Although we are human,  the battles we are fighting are not of the flesh but of the spirit. Our assignment is to use the word of God in battle. When you allow the Word of God to fight for you, you will not be concerned with the weapons of the enemy nor their footing in this battle.  Your focus will be on carrying out God's plans and submitting to His will. Take heart in knowing that because we are in Christ Jesus we can declare the VICTORY! Run

As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell face down on the ground. So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. 1 Samuel 17:48-50   Lately God has been dealing with me about running into my destiny, just as David ran toward the giant. Running into my destiny means that when He tells me to go, I have to go without thinking about where the journey will end. As the old adage says, "Slow obedience is no obedience." When God tells me to move, I must move without analyzing which position  I will occupy once I move.  A slothful response after God gives me instruction can lead to a less than desirable result.  Swift obedience, however, will birth abundance.  Running without thought is the striking equivalence of trusting God's word, plans, promises, and His faithfulness. It is also the total opposite of what my humanity wants to do in order to preserve itself from pain and problems. But isn't it awesome that we have a Father that stands patiently waiting for us to trust Him. My destiny is in the palm of His hand and it is waiting on me to come into it. So when He says go I go! Slingshot and Stones

Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.

Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David.He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him.He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.“Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!”

David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

1 Samuel 17:40-47

 David used five smooth pebbles from a stream to defeat Goliath. Think about the pebbles in your life - those small moments, words, or resources that we tend to overlook and underestimate. The same pebbles you pay no mind to while traveling the road of life may be the very tools that empower you to defeat your enemies. Do not despise the resources you have available to you for fear they are incapable agents against the weapons of your opponents. When God sends us into battle, we have to stand confident in knowing we are not alone. Romans 8:31 tells us ".........if God is for us then who can be against us?" Use the word of God as a stone and throw it at the enemy. And if nothing else, the name of Jesus is the best weapon you have. For at the name of Jesus, demons tremble and giants fall. Be encouraged for the I AM, is with you.

Be Yourself

Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head. David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them.

“I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.

1 Samuel 17:38-40

We must remember that we can not be anyone else but who God has called us to be.

When we try to be someone we are not we are short changing ourselves because we are limiting our capabilities and decreasing our possibilities.

The Glory of God

But David said to Saul, “Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”

1 Samuel 17:34-37

When faced with opposition and a seemingly impossible victory, pause for a moment and think back to the times that Jesus saved you before. When David was told that he was not old enough to defeat the giant, he recalled previous battles in which Lord kept him. This gave him the assurance that God would again bring him out victoriously. 

For every new battle that presents itself, we can confidently claim victory before it even begins. How is this possible? Because God would never allow us to enter a battle that He did not trust and know we could conquer. For every victory we win in Jesus' name, we are elevated and our minds are transformed. It is then that we begin to concern ourselves no longer with the problem at hand. Instead, we focus on the ONE who has already declared us victorious in Jesus' name. As we transform our minds. we begin to think and see more and more as our Father thinks and sees.

2 Corinthians 2:18 tells us, 

"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."

Glory is defined as admiration, adoration, beauty, splendor, magnificence, honor, and majesty. And each time God brings us through a struggle, He reveals more of His glory to us. When I am faced with an "impossibility", I think back to a time when my faith was tested in the past, and I remember how God showed up and the Glory of God was revealed. In fact, the very first time I really understood God's love for me was when He revealed His glory to me. The majesty of who He Is was so captivating, overwhelming, and powerful at that moment that I was unable to articulate the fullness of the experience. Suddenly, my issues didn't seem as large and strong as they once did. I just knew that Jesus must certainly love me to allow me to feel what I felt and see Him the way I did. I ponder that moment and keep it as a testament of victory any time that I am faced with difficulty. Thanks be to God! It always puts into perspective just how small my situation, problem, or giant is to JESUS.

Obedience

One day Jesse said to David, “Take this basket of roasted grain and these ten loaves of bread, and carry them quickly to your brothers. And give these ten cuts of cheese to their captain. See how your brothers are getting along, and bring back a report on how they are doing.”

1 Samuel 17:11-13

David was obedient to what his father told him to do, which lead him to a victory that began his journey to King. What if we were obedient to our Father, Jesus when he tells us to move, go, or stand still? What if we didn't allow our own frustrations and selfish agendas to keep us from being obedient? I know that sometimes when God gives us instruction we may not understand it's purpose, but that's when we must rely on our faith in God and strength in the Lord to be obedient. Your faith will give you peace and your strength in the Lord will give you endurance to finish the journey. Romans 8:28 says"for all things work together for the good of them who love God and are called according to His purpose." We must remember, we have no control over our lives, so why not put your trust in the ONE who has control over everything and has already promised us, through His Word that all things will work for our good. So no matter what lets choose to relentlessly be obedient to our Father.

Master Your Field!

Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?”

“There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.”

“Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”

So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes.

And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.”

So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.

1 Samuel 16:11-13

David was amongst the least of them who wouldn't have been considered as a candidate to be anointed, yet God had other plans. Just like many of us, we do not appear to be what it is desired for the position, however we have to remember that God has the final say. While we are waiting on our time we have to continue to work just as David did until the time comes for us to be elevated. I heard a minister once term David's continual work ethic as "Mastering his field." because to master something is to build skills, build proficiency, build character, and exhibit continue growth. While the others were inside David was out in the fields working, and just like David we have to Master our fields so that we can be well prepared and justified of why we are chosen. This message can apply to so many areas in our lives, whether it's in our business, our marriage, our ministry, or our education, just to name a few. Do not worry yourself with trying to be elevated it will come in God's time. In the meantime Master Your  Field!

Kountze Cheerleaders of Faith

In the news this week were the varsity cheerleaders in Kountze, Texas of Kountze High School who put scriptures on their signs and banners encouraging their football team to go for the victory. This act of faith has sent parents and school board officials into a frenzy, causing an unnecessary battle. Being that this issue is so minor, I resolve to believe that the Christian faith is really what's being challenged.

Banners and signs are not forcing personal religion and beliefs on anyone it is just an outward expression of encouragement of an individuals beliefs. Which is no different from Muslims wearing the 'Hijab, or  Jewish men wearing the yarmulke. Head gear is against school uniform in most schools however we allow this headdress because of their religious values. Do we challenge this exception? No, because we know that their personal beliefs do not effect my personal beliefs.

What if the fans in the stadium seats brought personal signs with scripture on them, encouraging the team, would that be a problem also? Lets pray for the Cheerleaders and their strength to keep fighting the good fight because through it all the battle is not theirs it is the Lord's.

YET HE STILL CALLED HER NAME!

This evening I was speaking to a young lady and she was so upset and distraught about the decisions she has made thus far in her life that she would not allow herself to forgive herself. She remained in her own agony, shame, guilt, and defeat, living a miserable life. As we prayed her cries communicated the pain and the hurt that is rooted so deep down in her that even words couldn't articulate. Its was if she bottled up all this hurt over the years only opening the lid to receive more and more hurt and closed it to healing and love. Unfortunately this is the same for so many people in the world.

We are living amongst a people who are so hurt and numb to the pain that they never confront the pain which leads to continued bad decisions and results of more hurt and pain. This cycle delivers them into a bondage that blocks them from receiving truth and love.

As we continued in prayer God gave me some words to encourage her with. I let her know that God was there when she was child and people did wrong to her. He was there when she saw things her eyes shouldn't of been exposed to. He was there when she made the bad choices she made. YET HE STILL CALLED HER NAME! He is the same God He was then as He is now. He destined her even though He knew the turns and curves she would take on her journey. YET HE STILL CALLED HER NAME!

Through all of that God kept her in His safety, hiding her, preserving her, and protecting her.

God's Promises

^{1 Samuel 23:16-18
 16} And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God. ¹⁷ “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.” ¹⁸ The two of them made a covenant before the Lord. Then Jonathan went home, but David remained at Horesh.

In this passage David was receiving encouragement from Jonathan who was Saul's son and Saul was out to kill David. Although Jonathan was Saul's son he still stood with and encouraged David, reminding him of the promises of God. When we are faced with giants and there is nothing more to do just stand on the promises of God and believe Him for his word is truth. 

As Christians we need to encourage each other to keep going and continue running this race for our reward will be when we meet Jesus.

Your opinion please!!!!

I believe music is the soundtrack of our lives and the rhythm of our soul, so what you listen to is the peep hole into whats in your heart. When Hip Hop was created it was used as a form of self expression and I have a theory behind the history. African American back in the 70's did not have a lot but we knew how to take what we had and create opportunity. So without instruments we configured a sound with just our voices called beatboxing, and put a rhythm to our words which complimented the beat. Through rhythmic story telling, rappers encouraged and educated their audience which was the beginning of Hip Hop.

Over time those encouraging messages became self righteous, shallow, insecure lyrics of false hope. The reason I use the phrase 'false hope' is because the general messages which are transferred through hip hop glorify materialism, immorality, disrespect, and inhumanity. Now don't get me wrong every rap song out does not fall under that umbrella however majority of mainstream hip hop music does.

As time progresses the quality of the message is rapidly declining and unfortunately increasingly capturing the attention of the younger generation. However now a younger generation of followers of Christ are attempting to take the hip hop sound and deliver messages of our Savior JESUS CHRIST saving grace, labeling it Holy Hip Hop.

Many mature believers in Christ do not agree with using hip hop as a vehicle to declare the word of God because hip hop is claimed to be 'worldly' and 'the devil's music.' They believe its sacreligous to mix things of this world with Jesus Christ because it can be viewed as we are conforming to the things of this world and compromising the Gospel.

My question tonight is, is it the label Holy Hip Hop which is conflicting, or is it the message over a hip hop beat which stirs confusion?

Capable to Pass

I heard a message from Sheryl Brady where she preaching of how Jesus was a teacher and teachers have to give test to ensure that the student will apply what they have learned correctly. She continues to describe how God gives us test because He knows we are capable of passing them but our test will confirm if we are ready to be promoted to the next level. See the bible says that we will go from glory to glory to glory and I believe that every test we pass is allowing us an opportunity to be presented with God's glory. The joy for me is when I reflect back to what God did the last time when my faith was tested and He showed up in a remarkable way. So based on the magnitude of His glory last time I can't imagine how He will reveal his glory this time. Most of what we experience and go through we have faced similar before we just have to believe, trust, and know that God will do it. Be Blessed!

Finally Free!

My coworker shared a testimony of this lady at her church and I had to share it with you

A woman visited her church and testified how she was shot with a 12 gauge shot gun at age 5 and how she was molested by several family members and her moms boyfriends. She said the reason she dresses like a man is because she never again wanted a man to find her attractive. She sang "JESUS LOVES ME" and said through all that... BUT GOD!!!!!............................... On the next Sunday the woman came to church with earrings on, and a more feminine outfit. She said someone from the church had given her an envelope with some $$$ in it and the people around her were trying to get her to spend it on unnecessary things, BUT she decided to go to Ross and buy her a new girly outfit that she was going to wear the following Sunday.

That's not the best part, she said when she, got home from church last week HER 20YR OLD GRAND DAUGHTER WHO IS A LESBIAN SAID TO HER " GRANNY, I'M GOING TO GIVE THAT LIFE UP TOO"...........................

 

I am still speechless over her testimony, there are no words to express how amazed I am of the JESUS we serve
